Structures & Cities
Wednesdays, October 13 – December 8, 2010
Tuesdays, February 18 – April 19, 2011
Imagine, balance, construct and combine materials to engineer an exciting mini city. Students learn about physics and connecting techniques they can use to support their structures. Elements of colour, pattern, and recycled materials encourage students to get creative. Focus can be adjusted, perhaps a realistic, futuristic, space-age or environmentally sensitive city would fit your curriculum.
Social Stories
Tuesdays, October 19 – December 14, 2010
Mondays, February 14 – May 16, 2011
Students explore social responsibility themes through story boarding and portraiture. Techniques for using water-based paint and colourful mixed media materials help students illustrate social responsibility in their community. Emphasis is on handling the variety of materials and using visual story telling skills such as framing.
Grey Winter, Golden Spring
Mondays, October 18 – December 6, 2010
Wednesdays, February 2 – April 27, 2011
Offered again for those who missed it last year! BC artist Gordon Smith has influenced generations of Canadian artists. Explore how he and other Canadian artists use colour, texture, and energy to show the seasons of our province. Using collograph printmaking and chalks, students create vibrant landscape artworks that contrast the colours and moods of the seasons.
